My "Give It A Shot" Folder

I keep a "Give It A Shot" folder on Pinterest. This is where I file away ideas that sound great that I want to put to the test. Here are a few must-tries from that folder, and I'd love to hear if you have tried these out!

Give It A Shot #1:
Freeze ripe avocado halves to save for later. Idea from this blog. Could this really work?!

Freeze avocados once they're ripe! Great for when they go on sale, or when you need an avocado and they're all too firm at the store. They keep for MONTHS this way! Who knew?: Freeze avocados once they're ripe! Great for when they go on sale, or when you need an avocado and they're all too firm at the store. They keep for MONTHS this way! Who knew?

Give It A Shot #2:
Place a canned good under a candle in a hurricane vase to lift it up and take up some of the space. Bonus? The candle sits completely level! Surround with a filler of your choice. (Source not found.)

place a can under candle before filler - you'll use less filler & the candle will sit straight: place a can under candle before filler - you'll use less filler & the candle will sit straight

Give It A Shot #3:
Dog popsicles, for the "dog days" of summer. Frozen chicken and beef broth, with rawhides as sticks! Original idea here. Love this idea for our furry friends.

Dog Pupsicles- chicken or beef broth. For those hot days when your pooch needs to cool down, and deserves a little something special: Dog Pupsicles- chicken or beef broth. For those hot days when your pooch needs to cool down, and deserves a little something special

  1. These are such great ideas, and I think they would really work!

  2. I am especially curious about the first one! I'm such an avocado lover, but they always go bad before I can eat them. I keep them in the fridge and that helps their life a little bit, but not dramatically! Maybe the freezer is the way to go!

  3. The canned good is genius! Why have I never thought of that. And I'm so trying the avocado too. That's great!

  5. The can trick - it sounds so simple, I don't know why I haven't thought of it myself! I mean, it has to work, right? Very curious to see your results with the frozen avocados though. I am the only one who likes avocado in my house, so if I could freeze halves, it would save a lot of produce that goes bad and gets thrown away!

  6. A can makes much more sense! I tried toilet paper and paper towel rolls but had to tape the top, and it's not as even (and not great for heavy candles). Great share! Really curious about the avocado.

  7. I'm very curious to see if the frozen avocado thing works... I actually have one right now that's about to go bad, so maybe I'll have to try it! It's always so sad when I have to throw one out because they are so expensive compared to other produce!

  8. I tried freezing avocado with Elyse when I was making her baby food. I cut it into small chunks, dipped it in lemon water and then laid it on parchment paper on a cookie sheet in the freezer. Once frozen, I put all the pieces in a ziploc bag and pulled them out as needed. This did work...but I wouldn't say the texture was anywhere close to what you would want for say guacamole. It might work better if I had frozen the entire half...I'd be curious to try it.

I do have good luck with letting them ripen on the counter (for those that are super hard when I purchase them) and then I pop them in my refrigerator for a couple of days and I gain a few extra days of goodness out of them.
